Our Story

How it all started...

Pastor Jason + Suzy Cook have served for over 25 years in ministry together.  Being a former teacher and working with special needs children, Suzy has a passion for pouring into mothers + children. Prior to pastoring, Pastor Jason was a physical education teacher and coach. He has a Bachelors in Education from Radford University, a Masters in Education from Virginia Tech, and a Doctorate in Theology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary. Pastor Jason has a heart for helping people and he enjoys ministering to the younger generation through sports and coaching. Pastor Jason was born and spent most of his childhood in West Virginia. His family moved to Roanoke when he was a teenager, where he met Suzy who was born and raised in Roanoke.
Together they have 3 beautiful children. Noah, their 1st born, is newly married to wife, Madison. Noah is a graduate of Liberty University and Virginia Military Institute, where he played baseball. Scottie is their middle daughter who is attending Lee University where she is a member of the volleyball team. Swisher is the youngest in the Cook clan and he loves working in Children’s ministry, playing baseball, and basketball.
The Cook family is proud to call Roanoke their home. They love being a part of Valley church because it
feels like family.

Expanding the vision...

In June 2024, we celebrated a major milestone with the ribbon cutting of our brand-new, state-of-the-art children’s facility. This 12,000 square foot space—complete with an indoor playground and age-specific environments from nursery to 5th grade—was built with one mission in mind: to Compete for the Culture.

We believe the next generation is worth fighting for. In a world full of noise, confusion, and compromise, we are committed to shaping a future where our children know Jesus, grow in truth, and experience the joy of community. This facility isn’t just a building—it’s a vehicle to grow families, disciple young hearts, and plant seeds of purpose that will last for generations.

Where we are headed...

Our vision is bigger than a building—it’s a movement. As we look ahead, we are more committed than ever to becoming a church known for discipleship and soul-winning.

We believe every believer has a next step, and every soul matters to God. That’s why we’re focused on creating clear, intentional pathways for people to grow in their faith, find true community, and be equipped to lead others. Through one-on-one mentorship, small groups, and gospel-centered teaching, we are raising up a church that doesn’t just attend—but activates.

We are a sending church. A soul-winning church. A discipling church.
This is where we’re going—and you’re invited to be part of it.
